Ethylhexyl Palmitate, or ethylhexyl palmitate, can be obtained in several common ways:
This is the main method for the industrial production of ethylhexyl palmitate, which is generally prepared by esterification of palmitic acid (cetanoic acid) and 2 - ethylhexanol in the presence of a catalyst.

Reaction principle: Esterification is a reaction in which an alcohol reacts with a carboxylic acid or an oxygenated inorganic acid to form an ester and water. In this process, the carboxyl group (-COOH) in palmitic acid reacts with the hydroxyl group (-OH) in 2 - ethylhexanol, removing one molecule of water and forming ester group (-COO-), thus producing ethylhexyl palmitate and water.
Catalyst: Commonly used catalysts include concentrated sulfuric acid and p-toluenesulfonic acid. Concentrated sulfuric acid has strong acidity and can catalyze the esterification reaction of carboxylic acid and alcohol, but it may cause some side reactions, such as oxidation, dehydration, etc. P-toluenesulfonic acid is a solid acid catalyst with the advantages of high catalytic activity, good selectivity, low corrosiveness, etc., and it can improve the efficiency of the reaction and the purity of the product.
